Introduction

On this blog, I will be presenting the process and developments of my project. By developing my ideas and get inspirations for my project, I am going to gather researches from different sources, for instance: books, magazines, internet, films, etc. The title of this project is named 'Brave New World' and the contexts are relevant to special effects make-up and prosthetics, design and research for a fashion led production. The aim of this project is to create a new understanding of beauty for a specific beauty and fashion industry context. I will be creating my own design of an innovative ideals of human hybrid beauty character which is inspired by nature and the human body using special effects and light prosthetics. This project helps me to understand how to use different shape and texture to alter a human face and body. It also allows me to learn the conceptual of realisation and designs in special effects make-up and prosthetics. In lesson, I will learn how to use silicone and sculpting skills to create a mould first and it is a technique widely used in film industry for continuity work and precision. At the beginning of this project, I will start to learn how to make a wound with silicone and then create the wound on my partner. After that, I will characterize my model to let the audiences know how the wound was caused, why and where it was placed?, etc. In this blog, I will research on areas such as anthropological and anatomical, subcultural, human hybrid, the history of prosthetics, contextual research, drawings, etc to get inspirations. I will create a mood board based on the Brave New World theme for gathering research and design development.

I'm so excited about the 'Brave New World' project as I can create and design my own character with creativity and imagination. I can also learn the different skills in special effects make-up and prosthetics and this helps me to understand more about this area and learn the technical skills. This project also helps me to build the pathway to work in special effects industry in the future. During year 1 semester 2 at university, I have done a Gothic Horror project and I have learnt how to create wrinkles, wounds, scars, burns, etc. I'm really interested in what I've learnt and so this year in Year 2, I have chosen special effects as my chosen subject. Whenever I watch a film, I always look at the makeup, hairstyle, special effects and the styling of the characters. During this summer, I have watched different films such as Terminator Genisys, San Andreas, What we do in the shadows, etc and this makes me even more looking forward to what I'm going to do this year.
